چکیده

A quasitoric manifold (resp. a small cover) is a 2ndimensional (resp. an n-dimensional) smooth closed manifold with an effective locally standard action of (S) (resp. (Z2)n) whose orbit space is combinatorially an n-dimensional simple convex polytope P . In this paper we study them when P is a product of simplices. A generalized Bott tower over F, where F = C or R, is a sequence of projective bundles of the Whitney sum of F-line bundles starting with a point. Each stage of the tower over F, which we call a generalized Bott manifold, provides an example of quasitoric manifolds (when F = C) and small covers (when F = R) over a product of simplices. It turns out that every small cover over a product of simplices is equivalent (in the sense of Davis and Januszkiewicz [5]) to a generalized Bott manifold. But this is not the case for quasitoric manifolds and we show that a quasitoric manifold over a product of simplices is equivalent to a generalized Bott manifold if and only if it admits an almost complex structure left invariant under the action. Finally, we show that a quasitoric manifold M over a product of simplices is homeomorphic to a generalized Bott manifold if M has the same cohomology ring as a product of complex projective spaces with Q coefficients.

Some Examples in Toric Geometry

We present two examples in toric geometry concerning the relationship between smooth toric varieties and quasitoric manifolds (or more generally unitary torus manifolds), and extend the results of [8] to prove the non-existence of almost complex quasitorics over the duals of some certain cyclic 4-polytopes. We also provide the sufficient conditions on the base polytope and the characteristic ma...

Princeton-Rider Workshop Abstracts

Toric origami manifold is a generalization of a symplectic toric manifold: it is a manifold with torus action and a compatible 2-form degenerating in a nice, controllable way. In the same way as symplectic toric manifolds are classified by Delzant polytopes, symplectic toric manifolds are classified by certain collections of Delzant polytopes, called origami templates. We are interested in the ...

Toric Topology and Complex Cobordism

We plan to discuss how the ideas and methodology of Toric Topology can be applied to one of the classical subjects of algebraic topology: finding nice representatives in complex cobordism classes. Toric and quasitoric manifolds are the key players in the emerging field of Toric Topology, and they constitute a sufficiently wide class of stably complex manifolds to additively generate the whole c...

Warped product and quasi-Einstein metrics

Warped products provide a rich class of physically significant geometric objects. Warped product construction is an important method to produce a new metric with a base manifold and a fibre. We construct compact base manifolds with a positive scalar curvature which do not admit any non-trivial quasi-Einstein warped product, and non compact complete base manifolds which do not admit any non-triv...

Topological Classification of Torus Manifolds Which Have Codimension One Extended G-actions

The aim of this paper is to determine topological types of torus manifolds which have codimension one extended G-actions. As a result, we show that their topological types are completely determined by their cohomology rings and characteristic classes. Due to this result, we find the counterexample to the cohomological rigidity problem in the category of torus manifolds. Moreover, we find the cl...
